  • What is the most crucial thing in preparation before leaving Japan?
If you are concerned that your English proficiency is not at a level where you can keep up with lectures and class discussions, I recommend improving your speaking and listening skills before leaving Japan. Universities in Japan and Australia have totally different systems. In Australia, students are expected to discuss their opinions in each tutorial. So, it is important to have confidence in speaking and listening abilities before studying abroad.
  • What skill did you gain the most? (socially or academically)
In a social content, I felt that I gained some social skills which are necessary to communicate and interact with each other. Japanese people tend to be considered shy and quiet compared to Australians. So, it makes it more difficult to make friends if we don't speak to new people. At first, I was afraid of making mistakes when I spoke English. However, I realized that the most important thing is not speaking English perfectly but communicating with people and learning new things and making friends. It is very fun to speak with people from different countries.
  • What is the biggest hardship you faced?
The biggest hardship I faced was academic writing. In academic writing, I found it difficult to use more sophisticated words instead of simple words. The systems of English academic writing are very different from Japanese.
