Student Services

Advisor System

Each student is assigned to a full-time faculty member who provides counseling and advice on academic matters and everyday life. Students can ask for advice on how to advance their studies when registering for classes and can consult advisors on their future courses and how to make their college life fruitful and enjoyable.

Counseling Service

At the Counseling Service students can talk freely to qualified counselors about their problems in a confidential setting. The office also offers psychological education programs to help students make their lives more comfortable and meaningful.

Health Service

To help students maintain their health, the Health Service holds regular medical check-ups for the prevention and early detection of diseases, provides health consultations with medical specialists, and gives emergency treatment in cases of sudden illness and injury. When necessary, students are referred to suitable hospitals.

TWCU's Buddy Program

Currently about 30 international students are studying in TWCU. TWCU's Buddy Program plays a role to help make the transition to Japanese university life easier for new international students. The IEC recruits 'Buddy' from current TWCU students who are interested in international exchange and helping international students. An international student is paired up with more than one 'Buddy' and is able to receive desired support for at least six months.

Examples of the support 'Buddies' can provide for international students

  • airport pick-up
  • helping with paperwork for public offices
  • tours around the campus and neighborhood
  • a Japanese language partner

Student Activities

Tokyo Woman's Christian University Students' Association

The Students' Association, which is the top decision-making body for undergraduates, is an autonomous organization that has all undergraduate students as members. It conducts a range of activities, including organizing the Student Meetings, the University Festival, and oversees clubs and societies.

University Festival

The University Festival is held over two days every November. The festival takes its name, " VERA Festival", from the university's motto "QUAECUNQUE SUNT VERA". At the festival, there are numerous events such as presentations by clubs and societies, lectures by speakers from inside and outside the university, and talk shows with celebrities.

Clubs and Societies

Clubs and societies are important in making student life rich and meaningful. They enable students to meet people inside and outside the university and have experiences that will help them grow as individuals. These experiences will lead to a more fruitful life in their future. At present, the Students' Association oversees about 40 academic and 20 sports groups.
